A new organization is being formed as a result of the recent attempt by Bechtel Jacobs Company LLC (BJC) to double the medical and dental premiums for the pre-65 retirees. This organization, tentatively called Alliance of Grandfathered Retirees and Employees (AGRE), will be addressing the inequities in the benefits and pension for grandfathered retirees and employees. A meeting has been scheduled at the USW Union Hall located on Raleigh Road in Oak Ridge, TN. Please make plans to attend.Thursday, December 13, 2007

I plan to attend the meeting and will be contacting others as well.
The Alliance of Grandfathered Retirees and Employees appreciates the postponement of Bechtel Jacobs Company pre-age 65 retiree premium increase 1/1/08. This increase would have doubled the amount currently paid to a group of retirees who feel the pinch of living on a fixed income with no way to defray the cost-of-living increases. We need continued support to prevent BJC from discriminating against it employees and retirees and to preserve and protect the Department of Energy-promised benefits to the loyal Cold-War-Era workers who have sacrificed their personal lives and risked their health in these facilities and sites built to sustain the peace of our Great Nation. Throughout the Grandfathered Employees careers these retirees and employees have worked for DOE at K-25, Y-12, ORNL, Paducah, and Portsmouth. Grandfathered employees have been subjected to gradual decreases in benefits compared to our sister sites of Y-12 and ORNL with steady increases in premium amounts. Please support the Grandfathered Employees and say "NO" to discrimination of Grandfathered Employees who have risked their life's blood working at these DOE Government facilities during the Cold War Era.
